Backpacks for Liberia/Container of Hope- WCHS are so excited

Last week our students and staff had the fortunate opportunity to partner with Containers of Hope.   They are a wonderful organization.  Below is a bit of information about them.  We want to give 700 backpacks.

Who are we?

After answering a call to the Liberian orphans of West Africa in 2006, we understood our calling was given by God the Father, through His son Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. The burden for children around the globe and success of the 20 orphanages in Liberia touched by our first Container of Hope, has inspired us to expand – with God there are no limits.

God calls us to “love the least of these.”

With your help these forgotten children can feel the love Christ intends for us to share. They want nothing more than to survive and feel loved.

Laurel Yoshimoto

Laurel Yoshimoto is our new LOTE department chair.  Laurel brings great enthusiasm and adept instructional strategies to the department.  Laural is currently working on aligning our  WCHS Spanish 1 curriculum using the Understanding by Design format.  The UBD format calls for a logical practical way of designing curricular units- Goals, Assessments to Learning Activities.  The Spanish teachers are also headed to Blaine Raye’s TPRS seminar- an exceptional instructional methodology for learning a language.  TPRS uses the repetition of certain story based phrases to teach vocabulary and grammar.  The Spanish department hopes to be finish with all of Spanish 1 by early spring.  Way to go Laurel and the Spanish teachers!
